Mirella, Sylvia, and Johanna live together in an Amsterdam women's shelter. They fled their abusive partners. To get their lives back on track and understand what happened, they talk, cry, swear, laugh, and make countless phone calls. Despite the abuse, the women struggle to break away from their exes. The arguments often continue over the phone, about the past, debts, and their children. The camera observes without commentary as they grapple and struggle—but also as they support each other, share their doubts, insecurities, and dreams for the future. An intimate sketch of the women's daily lives, in which gossip, tears, and hilarious moments alternate in rapid succession.
